Why Should You Hire A Coach?

Updated: Sep 7, 2021

How often do you feel the urge to have certain experiences at least once in your life, such as holidaying in the most amazing places on earth, bungee jumping, painting something beautiful, or singing your heart out at karaoke?

Each of these experiences involves you feeling something on a deep level, something that can enrich the other parts of your life.

From the day you are born, you're cared for and nurtured by your parents. You receive an education, learn how to organize your life, how to be a social participant. You understand the value of virtues like sharing, giving, and contributing. In the middle of all the learning and growing that you do to become the person you are today, there is relatively little room to explore your limitless potential to achieve things that aren't even on your radar, things that might help you become the person you secretly dream about being.

Instead, you are discouraged from straying from the established structures and systems that function only to benefit a few. Schools and colleges focus more on imparting the value of decorum and ranking than on concepts like self-actualization, unapologetically following your dreams, and opening your heart to everyone in the world.

These systems and structures inevitably keep you from unlocking your full potential. They normalise your never-ending wait for your "real" life to begin - the life where you feel fulfilled and secure with what you have because of who you are. They make you feel lost, insecure, and fearful of what the next day might bring. You always feel as though something essential is missing from your life.

This is where life coaching comes in. To put it in the simplest terms, life coaching is a means of rediscovering yourself, though that might be an oversimplification.

Unlike therapists, counsellors or consultants, life coaches are trained to help you engage with your life in a more active, meaningful, and goal-oriented manner, so that you can go from where you are to where you really want (and can) be. Their focus is not so much on what got you here, but what will get you there.

Life coaches usually have particular fields of expertise. My expertise, for instance, lies in helping individuals such as students, professionals, executives and businesses enhance their performance, transition between careers, make better decisions, feel more self-confident, and let go of having to be in control all the time. As a coach, I help professionals, entrepreneurs, small businesses, and students in a number of life areas, such as:

  • Overcoming the mental blocks that keep you stuck in your comfort zone.

  • Taking care of you through acts of self-love.

  • Using the power of your own mind to succeed in life and business.

  • Moving past self-doubt and achieving your goals.

  • Finding the confidence to express yourself freely.

  • Cultivating loving relationships and moving away from toxicity.

  • Enhancing personal and team performance.

  • Being more organised and better control of time.

Life coaching is a tool that can help you out of the tough spots you might find yourself in from time to time. It allows you to shift your perspective from the narrow to the broad.

You don't have to be sad or stuck to benefit from a life coach. Even if you're in a good place, a coach can help you stay there for longer.

The transformational power of a series of life coaching sessions is impossible to describe unless you've experienced it. Along with tangible changes like switching careers, communicating better, being able to manage your time more efficiently, and so on, you will also begin to witness the little intangible evolutions like feeling less stressed in the face of pressure, nurturing better relationships, practising more self-love, and growing as a person in every aspect of your life.

The point of life coaching is not that they have the answers you need to unlock new experiences. To be honest, all a life coach has are some questions that are necessary but not obvious. These are powerful, introspective questions that provoke your mind and inner voice to come up with sincere answers on your own, acting on which can be life-changing in the way you want.

Meeting with a life coach is like attending the school of life. You find someone who listens intently to every word you say. Someone who helps you hear and see yourself through a new set of eyes, so you can reveal a better version of yourself.

Like holidaying in the most amazing places on earth, bungee jumping, painting something beautiful, or singing your heart out at karaoke, sitting down with a life coach is the kind of experience that will enrich other parts of
